State Senator Steve McClure (R-Springfield) joined with his Republican colleagues in requesting that the United States Attorney General look into Illinois rules for transgender athletes in girls’ sports.
All members of the Illinois Senate Republican signed onto a letter to the U.S. Attorney General for answers on how the state needs to move forward to be in compliance with President Donald Trump’s executive order to prevent biological males from competing in girls’ sports.
During the previous week, the Senators had received a letter from the IHSA, the governing body for high school sports in Illinois, that the organization would continue to allow athletes to compete in sports based on their gender identity.
“It’s obvious that the IHSA does not want to protect fair competition in girls’ high school sports. We need the federal government to step in and get our state in line with what the vast majority of parents and students are demanding. Biological males should not be competing against females in sports,” said Senator McClure.
