State Senator Steve McClure (R-Springfield) released the following statement after HB1697 was signed into law:
“This legislation will not only help to reign in prescription drug costs for families, but it will also provide a lifeline to our struggling local pharmacies. I was proud to cosponsor this bipartisan effort to make significant improvements in strengthening our healthcare system.
“We have already seen far too many of our independent pharmacies shut their doors because of how they are unfairly treated by PBMs. In many of our rural communities, local pharmacies are the only option available to quickly fill needed prescriptions. This legislation will put in place protections so that our independent pharmacies can survive and continue to serve people with prescriptions, blood pressure checks, and other vital health screenings.”
